Get Lazy Susan

The board goes on a screen in your kitchen. You add things from your phone or a computer. Pick what you have, and this page shows the steps for it.

Lazy Susan is in private beta. Setting up a household needs an invite.

Put the board on your screen

Do this on each screen you want a board on. Every kind of screen ends at the same place: a setup screen with an 8-character code and a QR.

Fire TV

Fire TVs that run Fire OS: the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, 4K Max and first-generation HD, the Fire TV Cube, and TVs with Fire TV built in.

It doesn't run on the Fire TV Stick 4K Select or the second-generation Fire TV Stick HD.

It isn't in the Amazon Appstore yet, so during the beta you install it with a free app called Downloader. It takes about ten minutes, and you only do it once.

  1. Get the Downloader app. On the Fire TV's home screen, go to Find, then Search, and type Downloader. Pick the orange Downloader app by AFTVnews and select Get or Download.
  2. Let Downloader install apps. Go to Settings, then My Fire TV. If you don't see Developer options there: open About, highlight your Fire TV's name at the top, and press the remote's middle button 7 times until it says you're a developer. Press Back. Open Developer options, then Install unknown apps, and turn Downloader on. On some older Fire TVs this is called Apps from Unknown Sources.
  3. Download Lazy Susan. Open Downloader. If it asks to use your files, select Allow. In the box on its Home screen, type lazysusan.app/tv.apk and select Go. When the download finishes, select Install, then Done. Downloader offers to delete the download file afterwards. Select Delete to free up the space.
  4. Open Lazy Susan. From the home screen, open Your Apps, then See all, and select Lazy Susan. To keep it on the home screen, highlight it, press the menu button (three lines), and choose Move to front.

The TV shows Set up this TV with a code. Go to part 3.

When there's an update. We'll let you know. Open Downloader, type the same address, and install. It replaces the old version and keeps the TV connected to your household.

Can I turn "Install unknown apps" back off? Yes. Lazy Susan keeps working. Turn it on again for Downloader when you install an update.

It says "App not installed". An earlier test version is probably on the TV. Remove it in Settings, then Applications, then Manage Installed Applications, then Lazy Susan, then Uninstall. Then install again from step 3.

Keep it on. If the screen still goes to a screensaver, check that Keep this screen on is on in the phone app. If the TV itself turns off after a few hours, look in the TV's own menu for Auto Power Off or an energy saving setting and turn it off.

Google TV and Android TV

TVs and boxes with Google TV or Android TV. That includes Chromecast with Google TV, the Google TV Streamer, Walmart's onn. boxes, the Nvidia Shield, and Sony, TCL and Hisense TVs that have Google TV.

It isn't in Google Play yet. Until it is, install it with the Downloader app, using the steps below.

  1. On the TV, open Settings, then System, then About. Move to "Android TV OS build" and press select seven times, until the TV says you are a developer.
  2. Open Google Play on the TV, search for Downloader, and install it.
  3. Open Downloader, type lazysusan.app/tv.apk, and choose Go. When it finishes, choose Install.
  4. If the TV says it can't install apps from this source, choose Settings, turn Downloader on, then press Back and choose Install again.

Connect the screen to your household

The screen is showing an 8-character code and a QR. Do this once for each screen.

  1. Open Lazy Susan on your phone or computer and go to Settings, then Add a screen. If you are still in first-time setup, you are already on Add your screen.

  3. Give the screen a name, like Kitchen TV or Hallway tablet, and select Add screen.
  4. The board appears on the screen within a few seconds.

The code lasts 10 minutes. If it runs out, choose Get a new code on the screen. On a Fire TV, press the remote's middle button.

A household can have 5 screens. Each TV, tablet or computer showing the board counts as one.

Adding things. Add an activity, a meal or a to-do from your phone or computer. It reaches the board in about ten seconds. If nobody has touched the screen or its remote for half an hour, it can take up to a minute.

Adding the other adults. Invite them from Settings. Each invitation is for one email address, works once, and lasts 7 days.

Removing a screen. In Settings, find the screen under Screens and choose Remove. The screen goes back to its setup code within five minutes.
